95mm Zirkonzahn-Compatible Blanks
The ONLY diameter that fits Zirkonzahn's proprietary holder system. 98mm blanks will NOT work—this is a mechanical incompatibility, not a preference.
01 Why Zirkonzahn Uses 95mm (Not 98mm)
The "Open System" Standard: 98mm
Most dental CAM systems (Roland, VHF, imes-icore, Amann Girrbach) use Ø98mm as the industry-standard "open system" diameter. This allows users to purchase blanks from any supplier.
- Advantage: Supplier independence, competitive pricing
- Machines: Roland DWX-52D, VHF K5, imes-icore CORiTEC 350i
The "Proprietary System": 95mm
Zirkonzahn deliberately uses Ø95mm as a proprietary diameter. This creates a "closed ecosystem" where users MUST purchase Zirkonzahn-approved blanks (or third-party blanks like ValidTi that reverse-engineered the holder spec).
- Purpose: Quality control, supply chain lock-in
- Machines: Zirkonzahn Ceramill Motion 2 (requires proprietary holders)
Business Strategy Behind 95mm
Zirkonzahn's 95mm diameter is a strategic business decision, not a technical requirement. By using a non-standard diameter, they ensure users cannot easily substitute third-party blanks. ValidTi reverse-engineered the holder dimensions to offer Zirkonzahn users a cost-effective alternative with the same dimensional compatibility.
02 Holder Clamping Mechanism Failure Risk
Risk Addressed
Holder Clamping Failure / Blank Ejection
Zirkonzahn holders use mechanical clamping on the 95mm outer diameter and step shoulder. Any diameter variance >±0.15mm risks insufficient clamping force, causing blank ejection mid-milling (potentially damaging the $150,000+ machine). ValidTi 95mm blanks are precision-machined to Ø95.00mm ±0.10mm, ensuring secure holder engagement every time.
The Clamping Mechanism
Zirkonzahn holders clamp the blank using:
- Outer Diameter Grip: Spring-loaded jaws clamp the Ø95mm circumference
- Shoulder Registration: Blank's step shoulder seats against holder face for Z-axis zero
- Set Screws: Manual tightening provides additional security
If the blank diameter is undersized (Ø94.80mm), the jaws cannot grip securely. If oversized (Ø95.20mm), the blank won't fully seat. ValidTi's ±0.10mm tolerance ensures perfect fit.

04 Verified Compatible Zirkonzahn Machines
Ceramill Motion 2
VERIFIED5-axis wet milling machine for dental restorations. Uses proprietary Ø95mm holders with mechanical clamping system.
- ✓ Working diameter: Ø95mm (proprietary)
- ✓ Holder type: Step-shoulder clamp design
- ✓ Blank thickness: 10-20mm (ValidTi offers 10/12/14mm)
Other Zirkonzahn Mills
COMPATIBLEValidTi 95mm blanks should be compatible with any Zirkonzahn milling machine that uses the standard Ø95mm holder system.
Note: Always verify holder compatibility with your specific machine model before ordering. Contact ValidTi technical support if unsure.
05 Thickness Selection Guide (Same as 98mm)
Although the diameter is different, thickness selection follows the same logic as 98mm blanks:
Single Crowns / Copings
For single-unit restorations where final thickness is 0.3-0.6mm. Reduces milling time and material waste.
- ✓ Anterior crowns
- ✓ Screw-retained copings
- ✓ Abutment bases
3-6 Unit Bridges
For medium-span bridges with cross-sectional height requirement ≤10mm. Most common thickness for implant bars.
- ✓ Posterior bridges (3-4 units)
- ✓ Implant bars (4-6 implants)
- ✓ Hybrid prosthesis frameworks
Full-Arch / All-on-X
For full-arch restorations requiring maximum vertical height (10-12mm final). Heavy-duty frameworks for Toronto bridges.
- ✓ All-on-4 / All-on-6
- ✓ Full-arch screw-retained
- ✓ Removable bar overdentures
06 When to Use 95mm vs. 98mm
Use 95mm If:
- You own a Zirkonzahn Ceramill Motion 2 milling machine
- Your holders are labeled "Ø95mm" or have Zirkonzahn branding
- You need to replace existing Zirkonzahn-supplied blanks
Warning: 98mm blanks will NOT fit Zirkonzahn holders. Do not attempt substitution.
Use 98mm If:
- You own Roland, VHF, imes-icore, Amann Girrbach, or other "open system" mills
- Your holders are labeled "Ø98mm" (industry standard)
- You want supplier independence and competitive pricing
Tip: If unsure, measure your existing blank diameter with calipers. 98mm is the industry standard.
07 Quality Documentation Included
Every 95mm blank shipment includes the same certification as 98mm blanks:
